Doreen, and her infamous daughters Trojan and Tangerine, became an internet sensation when “Doreen’s Story” went viral on YouTube, topping one million hits virtually overnight. Now, David Tristram, creator of the original video and one of the country’s most popular comedy playwrights, has created a stage version which is guaranteed to provide “bums” on seats.
It’s a riotous concoction of affectionate Black Country humour and biting social satire, which brings the self-confessed “lazy cow” up close and personal. Living off a complex package of benefits topped up with a little shoplifting, Britain’s most famous lady of leisure introduces us to her family, friends and neighbours, and we hear the views of those that try to shape her life – a colourful collection of Job Centre Managers, Employers, Government Ministers, Teachers, Diversity Officers, Lawyers – all brought to life by a superb supporting cast.
It’s “An Audience with Doreen”, and the least you can do is support her from your taxed income.
