“Black, Blessed & British” is a  show which comprises of readings and performance of poems and praise songs from the new poetic memoir of Claudette Athea Douglas.  The performance is woven together by uplifting observations of and pieces from the book. The show transports the audience on a rich lyrical journey which reflects on the author’s life, growing up as a black child in 1960’s in Cheltenham, the family relocating to Jamaica and her subsequent return to the UK, establishing herself as performer and spiritual activist in London. 

This innovate show has been created to evoke shared cultural  memories within the audience and provides interactive elements for audience participation.  Projected visual prompts encourage conversation around the universal themes of birth, belonging, becoming and spirituality. All will be distilled through poems and songs which celebrate our humanity by widening our understating of personhood of authenticity, identity, belonging and self-worth.  This performance empowers the audience to locate to their deepest hopes and most cherished aspirations with compassion, humour, warmth and creative exuberance.
