“Nine” by Cataclysm Theatre

A dark drama about two women held against their will – locked in a room and chained – and the mind games they play to keep one another alive. A harrowing, funny and tender account of the psychological price of survival. Questioning and thought provoking. ‘An incredibly brilliant, piercing story”.

A tale of two women held against their will, and the mind games they play to keep one another alive. Locked in a room and chained apart, language is their only currency, and comes to mean everything when a single word becomes the hanging point between life and death. A harrowing, funny and tender account of the psychological price of survival.

‘Nine is a riveting, focused, and ultimately loving look at the power of human relationships to overcome the most inhumane circumstances. Jane Shepard has achieved the impossible task of linking the most grim with the most noble aspects of the human spirit. Nine left me breathless!’ – Jesse Epstein, Cleveland Film Festival

Cataclysm Theatre is a Midlands based company founded in 2011 by Jade-Maria Cole and Chanelle Shea-Calvin. What first began as a university project soon became something that the founding members wanted to showcase to the general public. Their debut performances ‘Pool (no water)’ and ‘A Different Kind of Threesome’ received positive reviews which gave the girls all the encouragement they needed to push Cataclysm into mainstream theatre and perform to wider audiences.

Cataclysm aims to bring intimate and shocking theatre to audiences, encouraging them to question their own lives through their controversial performances.

Due to the nature of the piece “Nine” is recommended for 14+
