“Re-Turn” by Vivi Bayliss & Ella Godfrey

Amelia is a loser. Or at least, that’s how she sees herself. Ten years ago, she was on track to fulfil all her dreams and pursue a career as a professional dancer. Now she’s just an estate agent who refuses to ever dance. A wistful dance theatre piece which celebrates the beauty of failure.

Re-Turn is a wistful dance theatre piece which celebrates the beauty of failure.

Amelia is a loser. Or at least, that’s how she sees herself. Ten years ago, she was on track to fulfil all her dreams, gain entry to an elite ballet conservatoire, and pursue a career as a professional dancer. Now she’s just an estate agent who refuses to ever dance.

When Amelia gets tasked with selling the town hall where she had her childhood ballet classes, a trip down memory lane is the last thing she wants. However, as she’s back in the space, beautiful and painful memories resurface. Amelia relives her journey from passionate hobbyist to self-castigating perfectionist, remembering how body-image issues and the urge for control swallowed her joy for dance. Through confronting her past, Amelia rediscovers the sheer joy of movement and finally accepts that she has always been enough.
