The year is Fifteen Hundred Ninety Six,
Great Queen Elizabeth sits on the throne.
Within her royal lands sits London town,
a hurly-burly place of gatherings.
This very night assembled: actors fair
rehearsing for some newly written plays
created by a newly-made playwright
named Will Shakespeare of muddy Midlands way.
The writer Will has but a single goal:
To pen the perfect piece of tragedy.
And yet each time his quill and parchment meet
the words produced oft fail to hit their mark
since when the text is read out to the crowds
they laugh and giggle at the serious scenes.
No weeping for Juliet but cheers,
Macbeth and Hamlet treated much the same.
It seems Shakespeare is cursed to just write wrongs
Come watch and see where his first drafts mis-step
And help him find the error of his ways
By laughing at each tragic mistake he makes.
Let all patrons be warned – show may contain
language which spreads from pretty to profane.
In Elizabethan London a small group of actors are in rehearsal.
They are joined by a new playwright, Will Shakespeare, who is trying to write the perfect tragedy.
The problem is that audiences keep on laughing at his scenes.
Join the players as they run through the first drafts of Romeo & Juliet, Macbeth and Hamlet,
and let your laughter tell the Bard what he needs to change.
