The world premiere of a new play set against the backdrop of the infamous Contagious Diseases Acts of the 1860s by Carolyn Scott Jeffs (Out in the Garden, Radio 4, Doctors).

 

Fanny wants to be a big star. She is rehearsing for her Drury Lane debut. As she works on her songs with Arthur her long-suffering pianist it becomes apparent that things are not all as they seem. Fanny tells the tragic story of her friend Elsie and uses many forms of music hall performance to spin her tale.

 

Lizzie Wofford (National Youth Music Theatre, Apartment 40C, The Archers) plays the eponymous Fanny and Ray Rackham, Artistic Director London Theatre Workshop (Apartment 40C, Through the Mill) directs.

 

This is a rare opportunity to see a stylish workshop production of this new piece while it is still in development.
