An exploration of music performed on various types of harps and recorders, showcasing the adaptability and versatility of these instruments. It includes music from the 13th century through to the 20th Century. Mostly the pieces are Andrew and Robin’s own arrangements and transcriptions, and will include music by Carl Phillip Emanuel Bach, English lutenist composer John Dowland, Argentinian tango composer and bandonion player Astor Piazzolla, French composer Maurice Ravel and others.
About the Musicians:
Harpist Robin Ward is truly a unique musician, in that he performs on his own hand-crafted instruments and is one of only a handful of people who play the triple harp professionally in the world. Originally from New Zealand, Robin predominantly performs as a soloist and is currently based in the United Kingdom and has performed throughout Australia, Brazil, Bermuda, Germany, New Zealand and the United kingdom. May 2015 will see Robin’s first performances in Brazil at the 10th Rio Harp festival. Over his career he has also played with various orchestras and ensembles.
In 2009 Robin independently released his first solo CD; No Pedals Attached and he is currently working on his second ‘No Pedals Attached Vol. 2 Currently being edited, alongside of another recording of music with Recorder player Andrew Collis. As well as playing the harp Robin is also an accomplished instrument maker and harp teacher.
Recorder player Andrew Collis is one of the leading players of his generation. He has performed across the United Kingdom, Australia and the Far East. Andrew plays a wide range of repertoire ranging from early to contemporary music appearing in various ensembles and as a soloist. Andrew has produced two recordings, Exposure and Fusion, both of which highlight the variety of styles and sounds that are possible on the recorder. His work also includes world premier recordings of various new repertoire. Today he is in demand as a teacher, adjudicator and examiner both here and worldwide.
